This summer course focuses on urgent topics related to global health ethics and equity. With an enthusiastic team of experts from all over the world, the current major challenges to health equity in the world as well as potential solutions are discussed.
This interactive one-week summer course will bring together leading thinkers and doers about global health ethics, justice and equity. Like in previous years, the enthusiastic team of experts and participants from all over the world will discuss various urgent topics, for example:
Ethical consideration in global health research
Social justice and human rights
Equitable partnerships between high-income country (or 'Global North') and Low- and middle-income countries (or 'Global South')
Challenges encountered on the pathway to more just and equitable health systems
The role of moral deliberation to navigate ethical dilemmas in global health
Ethics in humanitarian crisis contexts
Fair access to medicines
Climate justice

Target audience
This course is open to all with an interest in global health, health justice and health equity:
Professionals: medical doctors, bioethicists, (political) philosophers, sociologists, members of research ethics committees
(PhD) researchers, from any discipline but with an affinity with Global Health
Policy makers
Master’s level students from a wide range of eligible backgrounds, e.g. medicine, global health, public health, biomedical sciences, philosophy, bioethics, applied ethics, sociology
Aim of the course
Guest lecturers will provide interactive sessions, alternated by small group work, to address the following learning objectives:
Understand the key concepts related to global health ethics, justice and equity
Discuss key challenges related to global health ethics, justice and equity and strategies to address these
Apply concepts discussed within the course to real-life situations within research, practice and policy brought in by teachers and fellow participants
Argue for a position in health equity debates
