Public Transport in Utrecht
Public transport in Utrecht is very well organised. The central point for buses, trains and trams in Utrecht is Utrecht Central Station. You can pay by card (debit, credit and phone) in all the trains, buses and trams in the Netherlands.
You can also buy bus tickets either at the information desk or from the bus driver. You can find the current prices here.
Please keep in mind that you cannot pay with cash in the bus.
Check out the website http://9292.nl/en/ where you can plan your route using all kinds of public transport in the Netherlands (in English).
Bikes
The Netherlands is a country full of people... and their bikes! Every Dutchie has a bike. Or two, or even three, in case the other two break down. Cycling is the way to travel in Utrecht. Special bike lanes make it pretty safe to speed up downtown and find your way around. If you stay for some weeks and want to experience the Dutch way of life, it is advisable to buy a bicycle. Make sure you use an extra lock to attach your bike to something that can’t be removed so easily, for example a tree! Some suggestions:
- Laag Catharijne rents out bikes: Catharijnesingel 34.
- Fietspunt sells cheap second-hand bikes: Nobelstraat 293
Never purchase a (stolen) bike from someone selling on the street, as this is illegal.
Tourist Information Centre
You can visit the Utrecht Tourist Information Office on Domplein—the square where Dom Tower and Dom Church are located—to find tourist information, gifts, and typical local souvenirs. If you need help planning an overnight stay or a day trip, the centre can assist with booking tickets, tours, and hotels. Feel free to stop by for advice and to ask about the best cycling and walking routes.
Internet Access
Before the start of your course you will a receive a Solis-ID. With your Solis-ID you can access the Utrecht University network. This network is available in all buildings of Utrecht University, Utrecht University of Applied Sciences, University of the Arts Utrecht, and the University of Humanistic Studies.
You can find the instructions on how to access the UU Wi-Fi here.
If you are placed in accommodation through us, your building will also have a Wi‑Fi connection.
Most places in Utrecht have Wi-Fi access for guests, so please feel free to ask for this.
