Exchange for UU

The Utrecht Summer School offers exchange places at Summer Schools all over the world, in Hong Kong, Korea, London, Liverpool and Santiago. For all these programmes the course fee will be waived for UU students. In 2021 all courses were online, but we hope to offer on-site exchanges again in 2022. The offer below will include our partner university Queen Mary as well.  

HOW TO APPLY: Are you a Utrecht University student and would you like to join one of these programmes? Send your CV, a recent transcript of records and a motivation letter, all in English, to: explaining the session you would like to apply for and why you would like to join the programme. We will contact you afterwards about the outcome of the selection and about the procedure.

The application deadlines listed are the deadlines of the summer school programmes. There are several moments before this date where the Utrecht Summer School reviews applications. The application will close after all exchange places have been filled.


The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) - 2022

The HKUST International Summer Exchange Program (ISP) allows students to study at HKUST during the summer term as exchange students. Last summer, HKUST welcomed over 250 exchange students. Please take a look here to get to know HKUST ISP!

In the summer of 2022, the programme will run from 20 June - 13 August 2022. There are 20 places available for UU students to attend HKUST in 2022. ISP offers an interesting range of courses on different subjects. Click here for the ISP website of HKUST.The full list of courses will be published in January 2022. 

Students will study at least 3 credits and up to 9 credits of regular undergraduate-level
courses offered by HKUST. Local excursions and cultural activities will be organized
exclusively for ISP students. A series of activities and events are also available for ISP
students to interact with each other to encourage cultural exchange. Are you interested? The earlier you apply, the sooner you know if you can spent your summer at HKUST!

Application deadline: 21 February, 2022 

PERIOD: from 20 June 2022 - 13 August 2022 (accommodation period is from 16 June to 14 August).

PRICE: While students do not need to pay tuition fees to HKUST, each student will be charged
HK$9,500 which covers the following items:
- University housing fee
- HKUST compulsory travel insurance fee
- Student visa application and handling fee
The amount will be deducted accordingly for students who do not need a student visa to
study in Hong Kong.

The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) - 2021

We are excited to announce the return of the CUHK International Summer School in 2021 in virtual mode. Both inside- and outside-classroom learning will be delivered virtually in the comfort and safety of your home.

The CUHK International Summer School (ISS) is one of the region's most recognised summer programmes attracting an annual cohort of some 600 international and local students. The Summer School provides students with an intensive academic experience and Chinese culture immersion in a multi-cultural virtual environment through two sessions.

In addition to intellectually stimulating academic courses, there will be an array of culturally immersive virtual activities every week ranging from city tours, cooking classes to heritage walks. The July Session will offer Chinese language courses (Putonghua and Cantonese) from beginner to intermediate levels and 14 content courses which span across the areas of Business & Finance; Environment, Science & Technology; Society & Human Interaction; and Understanding China. The August Session will focus on intensive Chinese language (Putonghua) training at the beginner, intermediate and advanced levels.

All courses, except Chinese language courses, are taught in English by outstanding academics from CUHK and prestigious overseas universities.

University of Liverpool - 2021

The International Summer School offers you the opportunity to attend modules online.

Join other students from around the world, choosing to take a 3-week programme in June or July.

Utrecht University and the Utrecht Summer School have an ongoing exchange programme with King's College London. In 2021 there are 10 places available for UU students to attend a course in King's College London Summer School.

Universidad de Santiago de Chile - 2021

The University of Santiago de Chile has a vast academic trajectory of 170 years and is projected as a campus of excellence, with emphasis on research and a global perspective. The Faculty of Engineering provides International Schools for national and international students during summer time. These events are not only an opportunity for specialization in topics about development and innovation in Chile, but they also incorporate a module of intercultural relationships in which you will learn a little more about the country and the culture.

This summer you can participate in their fascinating online Summer School 'Sustainable Development and Circular Economy in Latin America'. The main objective of this programme is to develop critical thinking through study cases on Sustainable Development and Circular Economy. Students will be able to identify technical, societal, political and cultural aspects involving the fields of Energy, Pollution and Circular Economy at a national and international level. Please note, this online course will be offered in May/June.

EWHA Womans University - 2021

Founded in 1886, Ewha Womans University is Korea’s very first institution of higher learning for women. In the summer, both men and women study at Ewha. It has since grown to become one of Asia’s most prestigious universities and one of the largest women’s universities in the world. Over 3,000 students from more than 70 countries visit Ewha each year through various short- and long-term programs to experience Ewha’s leading global infrastructure and quality education. This summer they will offer their summer courses online.

In the summer they offer two different sessions. The first is the International Summer College which lasts 4 weeks. In the second half of the summer they offer their Summer Special Program: Korean Language & Cultural Session which lasts 3 weeks.
