How to apply
The Utrecht Summer School offers exchange places at Summer Schools all over the world, in Hong Kong, South Korea, London, Liverpool and Leeds. For all these programmes the course fee will be waived for UU students.
The application deadline for the summer of 2024 passed, so you can now longer apply. If you wish to join our exchange in the summer of 2025, please check this page again in December 2024, for the exchange locations and deadlines.
Are you a Utrecht University student and would you like to join one of these programmes? Send your CV, a recent transcript of records and a motivation letter, all in English, to: summerschool@uu.nl explaining the university and session you would like to apply for and why you would like to join this programme. You can do so as of December 2024. We will contact you afterwards about the outcome of the selection and the procedure.
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST)
The HKUST International Summer Exchange Program (ISP) allows students to study at HKUST during the summer term as exchange students. Last summer, HKUST welcomed over 250 exchange students. Please take a look here to get to know HKUST ISP!
Students will study at least 3 credits and up to 9 credits of regular undergraduate-level
courses offered by HKUST. Local excursions and cultural activities will be organized
exclusively for ISP students. A series of activities and events are also available for ISP
students to interact with each other to encourage cultural exchange. Are you interested? The earlier you apply, the sooner you know if you can spend your summer at HKUST!

Costs
Tuition (course fee) is waived for exchange students nominated by the Utrecht Summer School. Exchange students shall pay the administration and activities fee.
The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK)
The CUHK International Summer School (ISS) is one of the region's most recognised summer programmes attracting an annual cohort of some 600 international and local students. The Summer School provides students with an intensive academic experience and Chinese culture immersion in a multi-cultural virtual environment through two sessions.
Courses will be offered in four academic areas taught by outstanding CUHK and visiting professors from renowned overseas universities, as well as Chinese language courses. All courses, such as the courses in Business, Science, Technology and Psychology, will be taught in English apart from Chinese language courses. ISS academic courses are accompanied with a slew of exciting cultural activities.

Tuition (course fee) is waived for exchange students nominated by the Utrecht Summer School. Exchange students pay for accommodation, administration and activities.
I wholeheartedly recommend this program to anyone eager to learn about research methodologies and experience the beauty of Hong Kong. It was an unforgettable summer, and I'm grateful for the opportunity.
United Kingdom - King's College London
Utrecht University and the Utrecht Summer School have an ongoing exchange programme with King's College London.
King's College London ranks 23st in the QS World University Rankings 2018 among 800 top education institutions. It has more than 26 thousand students from more than 150 countries worldwide. King's offers a range of courses in different subjects such as Business, Politics, Physiology, Diplomacy and Media. If you are selected, you can join a course in session 1 or 2.

Costs
The course fee is waived. If you want to stay on campus during one of the sessions you can, but you would need to pay for this yourself. Accommodation can be booked along with the modules and is priced at £820 per two-week session.

Nominated exchange students just pay the non-tuition costs reducing the 4-week fee to £2,120 (usually £3,900) and the 2-week fee to £1,260 (usually £2,150). Please note that exchange students are not eligible for the LISS merit scholarships but can apply for our LISS Champion scholarships.
The first module had a very engaged and international set of students, which was very valuable when discussing all kinds of cases of historical injustice from all over the world.
United Kingdom - Queen Mary University of London
Utrecht Summer School has an ongoing exchange programme with Queen Mary University.
Queen Mary Summer School puts you in charge of your studies. They wish to give you the broadest academic experience, and have courses in science, politics, business, law and the humanities! You can find an overview of their full program here: Course overview.
You can apply for one summer school course in either of the blocks. Each course takes 3 weeks.

PRICE: No tuition fee for UU exchange students. You would need to pay the accommodation fee yourself. As a Queen Mary Summer School student, you will be offered a place on campus in our comfortable accommodation. You’ll have a single room in one of our self-catering flats, so you can meet other students and make friends while you are there. More information is presented on this page.
United Kingdom -University of Liverpool
The International Summer School offers you the opportunity to attend modules in Liverpool.
Join other students from around the world, choosing to take a 3-week programme in June or July.

South Korea - EWHA Womans University
Founded in 1886, EWHA Womans University is Korea’s very first institution of higher learning for women. In the summer, both men and women study at EWHA. It has since grown to become one of Asia’s most prestigious universities and one of the largest women’s universities in the world. Over 3,000 students from more than 70 countries visit EWHA each year through various short- and long-term programmes to experience EWHA’s leading global infrastructure and quality education. This summer EWHA will offer their summer courses in-person and online as a hybrid form.
In the summer courses are offered in two different sessions. The first is the International Summer College which lasts 4 weeks. In the second half of the summer they offer their Summer Special Programme: Korean Language & Cultural Session which lasts 2 weeks.
