The Summer School on Applied Mathematics is aimed at students in their final year of the undergraduate studies in Mathematics (or related fields, such as Physics and Computer Science, provided they have the relevant mathematical background). The mini-courses offered during the school encompass the selected research directions in Applied Mathematics within the Mathematical Institute of Utrecht University, including signal and image processing, inverse problems, game theory, networks, stochastic modelling and numerical analysis.

Target audience

Students with at least two years of mathematics at bachelor's level who have a basic background in linear algebra, (partial) differential equations, probability theory, linear functional analysis, numerical methods and aspects of mathematical modelling. Some tutorials will require knowledge of Python.  Students from universities in The Netherlands, including Utrecht University, and from universities worldwide, are welcome to apply.

Aim of the course

The aim of the summer school is to expose students to the state-of-the-art research topics in modern applied mathematics and provide them with an overview of the research done at the Mathematical Institute of Utrecht University. During the mini-courses, the participants will also get an opportunity to interact with each other and apply newly gained knowledge during the exercise sessions. The learning experience will be complemented with a social program.
