Enacting the Posthuman
“Learning, Teaching, Practising and Composing Posthuman Theory"
“Learning, Teaching, Practising and Composing Posthuman Theory"
The focus of this year’s session of Braidotti’s summer school is on ways and means of enacting Braidotti’s notion of the posthuman convergence through a series of selected practices. The focus is on pedagogical practices, ways of transmitting, translating and reaching the posthuman convergence. The format of the intensive course is theory becomes practice, listening becomes response, thinking becomes making. The aim of the course is to help participants orient themselves within the ethical, affective and intellectual landscapes of the posthuman convergence: what does it mean to think, enact and do things posthuman? Participants can expect encounters with the pragmatism of institutional practices of applied posthuman knowledge, but also intensities of radical imaginings, ethical aspirations and political disappointment. Musical composition and practice will be very important in this year’s session. As usual the collective aspects will be central, in the practices of an emergent community. The teaching, learning and sharing rhythm of the week is variable but stable: stimulation and reflection, lecture and lull, question and pause, rupture and resonance – inviting all participants to bring their own timbre to this shared score.
Structured into five parts across a week’s time, the program will deepen participants’ engagement with Braidotti’s posthuman theory and affirmative ethics, asking how we might respond to contemporary negativity through a posthuman, non-dualistic lens. The week-long course will take place in person, at Utrecht University, and will consist of lectures and work groups led by Professor Braidotti, as well as guest speakers.
These will be announced at a later date.
Teachers will include dr. Kay Sidebottom, dr Ruth Clemens, and musical curator Pia Palme.
