Description

This course is designed for students with intermediate proficiency (above HSK 3 or approximately 400+ study hours). Through structured practice and interactive activities, you will further develop your communication skills, expand your vocabulary by 250 new words, and gain confidence discussing a wide range of everyday and academic topics in Chinese (HSK3/HSK4/HSK5). Upon successful completion, you will earn 7.5 ECTS.

Why Study Chinese?

China continues to grow as a global economic, political, and cultural powerhouse. With 1.1 billion speakers, Chinese is not only the world’s most spoken language but also one of the oldest continuously used writing systems. As China’s influence expands, interest in its culture, history, politics, economy, and society has increased significantly—making Chinese an important language for scholars, professionals, and globally minded students.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the course, you will be able to demonstrate:

  • Knowledge of 250+ commonly used vocabulary words
  • Understanding of 50 key grammar structures
  • Ability to engage in conversations across a wide range of topics
  • Enhanced understanding of Chinese culture and contemporary society

Course Schedule Dates: 22 June – 3 July

Format: Online, Monday to Friday Time: 10:00–12:30 (CET)

Total sessions: 10, including final exam

  • Contact hours: 25
  • Self-study hours: 40+
  • Self-study for ECTS students: 80+ (including viewing Chinese documentary series and completing a reflective essay on Chinese culture or society)

Study Materials

Students will use an online graded reading platform designed for Chinese language learners. The app provides level-appropriate news articles, audio recordings, vocabulary lists, and comprehension exercises that support vocabulary acquisition and reading fluency. (A discounted one-month subscription can be purchased together with the study group. Alternatively, students may choose to purchase their own two-week subscription independently)
