NBS Summer School | Utrecht University & Delta Climate Center

The NBS Summer School, co-organised by Utrecht University and the Delta Climate Center, offers an intensive, interdisciplinary learning experience at the forefront of Nature-Based Solutions research and practice.

What sets this programme apart is its exceptional field dimension. Participants will travel across four field  locations and two cities with an arranged bus, engaging directly with real landscapes, the communities and practitioners shaping NBS implementation on the ground. From urban green infrastructure in the city to peatlands, flood-prone areas, and ecological restoration sites in the field, the programme brings theory to life in places where the challenges are real and the stakes are high.

Alongside these field excursions, the curriculum combines workshops, interactive lectures, and collaborative sessions led by experts spanning environmental science, law, physical geography, urban planning, hydrology, and climate adaptation. Topics include urban ecological restoration, peatland resilience, sustainable green infrastructure, and flood risk management in vulnerable regions.

Participants leave not only with practical skills and theoretical grounding, but with a genuine cross-disciplinary network and first-hand experience of NBS in action — exactly the kind of profile that stands out in careers across the public sector, research, and environmental practice.
