Join this Masterclass and get to know more about Japan by listening to music. What kind of songs and sounds are popular and why? This Masterclass offers interesting cultural references to past, present and future musical contexts. It takes place on 30 August from 13:00 to 16:00.
Japanese music ranges from Buddhist chants and bells to music in animation. Japan's idols include classical piano player Hiromi Uehara, bestsellers AKB 48, Hatsune Miku, Egoist and Susumu Hirasawa to name a few. We will begin the masterclass by exploring some of Japan's traditional music and instruments throughout history. Interaction is especially welcome when we move on to more modern genres with vocaloid artists and image songs. Prepare to be surprised and inspired to learn more about Japanese language and culture.
