This online introduction course is intended for students and recent graduates in physiotherapy and related fields interested in pain management, mental health and rehabilitation of hand injuries. The participant will be introduced to state-of-the-art knowledge and clinical reasoning skills. Lectures and seminars on these specialized fields alternate and we will use various interactive methods to encourage clinical reasoning.

For students interested in studying abroad this course provides an excellent preview of what we offer at the Institute of Human Movement Studies (UASU).
It is a great opportunity to meet and cooperate with students in a professional and international context.  

During this week we will focus on different casus/ patients within the 3 themes .

We will have asynchronous assignments and lectures and synchronous meetings.
During the meetings we will focus on clinical reasoning. We will work in groups (different sizes) on assignments and we will meet experts.  

We will also discuss the different perspectives and possibilities within different healthcare systems, based on the input from all students.

Upon completion, the participant will be able to: 

  1. Understand state-of-the-art theoretical concepts on pain, mental health and hand rehabilitation.
  2. Apply clinical reasoning.
  3. Explain the value of an interdisciplinary approach in physiotherapy and rehabilitation in general.

Non native English speakers will have the opportunity to practice their English communication skills in a professional context.

Target audience

Students bachelor (from the 2nd year) and master in physiotherapy, allied health care and medical students. Recent graduates and professionals are also welcome.

Study load

The course consists of  5 days (approximately 6-8 hours per day), lectures, seminars and a (group) assignment alternate.

The preparation assignment includes: Pre-readings, knowledge clips and online assignments (approximately 18 hours).
