Have you ever wondered what makes Europeans ‘European’? During this course you will uncover the answers while staying in the beautiful medieval city of Utrecht. You will not only uncover Europe’s cultural pluralism, but also its varied identities that still exist today; despite the fact that the majority of the European countries are progressively collaborating on an economic and political level. Each of Europe’s countries and peoples still carry their own distinctive cultures, languages, political views, religions, and traditions.
This 7-day program offers an introduction to Europe, a continent of great diversity. Its divergent peoples carry their own cultures, religions, traditions and languages. Yet, the majority of the European countries have been increasingly engaged in a joint project aimed at political and economic integration in the European Union. Lecturers from Utrecht University will introduce various European topics in morning lectures. In the afternoon, seminar sessions will offer you the opportunity to discuss the course content, ask questions and present assignments. This will enable you to train your academic communication skills in an international environment. The course will conclude with an in-class examination covering all lecture and literature content.
A highlight of the course is the excursion to Amsterdam. The capital city of the Netherlands, offers world-famous museums, such as the Van Gogh Museum, and a beautiful historical city centre with canals and old houses, which will be explored in a walking tour.
The program start on the 6th of July. The Academic part of the program will start on Monday the 8th of July.
