A central element in the dynamic capabilities of an organization is its ability to successfully transform existing assets and resources into new capabilities. Projects are key instruments to this rapid organisational change. However, the traditional ‘plan & control’ approach to project management does not fit the dynamic and flexible approach that successful organisational change requires. The solution to this problem can be found in Agile project management. This course covers the Agile approach to projects from its conceptual foundations to the different methodologies and practical applications.

One of the most important developments in project management is Agile. Almost without exception, agile projects are praised for delivering better products and a smoother project management process. Professional project management organisations, such as IPMA and PMI are all integrating agile into their standards. Also, organisations are embracing agile methodologies such as Scrum as the solution to various issues they experience with projects. However, agile is also overhyped and quickly misunderstood. An agile approach can, if the conditions are fitting, have great benefits, but it is not a recipe for success.

Organisations and project management professionals need to understand when and in what context agile approaches are effective and should be able to implement agility in their process when that makes sense. It is this competence that the course ‘Agility in Project Management’ addresses. In the course, questions are discussed such as: What is agility? What are agile approaches? What is the difference between Agile, Scrum and other methodologies? What are the success factors for an Agile approach? And what are the fail factors?. Also, the participants are equipped with an understanding of how to integrate agility in projects and project management.

In order to have a good understanding of the agile approach to projects, the course includes the ‘Professional Scrum Master’ (PSM-I) or ‘Professional Scrum Product Owner’ (PSPO-I) certification of
